JSAW’s internship is a 24-week program designed to equip and invest in leaders to do action sports ministry locally and worldwide. JSAW’s vision for this internship comes from Matthew 9:35-38:
Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
We recognize that much of action sports culture is harassed and helpless. We also recognize that transforming action sports culture requires more workers. JSAW’s internship is designed to build believers into workers. Interns will start and lead a weekly community ride day and Bible study, share the gospel, pray for and mentor riders. Interns will also have the opportunity to go on a JSAW mission’s trip. Upon completion of the program interns will have the opportunity to join the staff as a JSAW Worker or be sent to work with any of our action sports ministry partners around the world.
Where: Minneapolis, MN has over 45 skateboard parks within 30 minutes of downtown including 10 skate plaza’s and 3 indoor skateboard parks. There are 7 ski/snowboard resorts within an hour drive of downtown including a year around dry slope. Minnesota is the ‘land of 10,000 lakes’ so wakeboarding and wakesurfing is everywhere all summer long. Not to mention being the home of XGames in 2017 and 2018.
Cost: $3000 includes classes, outreach supplies, and your missions trip (See details below). Housing is not included, however we may be able to help find you a host home. We encourage interns to have a part time job or raise support and live in the community.
When: There is one internship in the summer March-August and one internship in the winter September-February. The internship is split into two parts. The first 12 weeks are focused on class and immersion into action sports ministry. The latter 12 weeks are focused on practicum and outreach in the community.
