On October 21st through 28th JSAW had the opportunity to take a mission trip to Brazil! We had an amazing team of 8 skateboarders who traveled to São Paulo for a week of community outreach. Together, we connected with over 170 people at multiple skateparks and schools and 25 of them chose to place their faith in Jesus!
One day we visited a school, where we did skateboard demos in the rain (extra slippery!) and shared our testimonies with the students through a translator. We also visited a skateboard school, helping teach skateboarding to local kids. They loved the chance to talk with Americans, and though they were sometimes unsure of their English, we spent time practicing with them, building friendships and encouraging them. Many of the kids we met are living in very rough homes but were so encouraged by our team’s attention to serving them.
One evening, a few of our team members felt led to head out to the bars and share the love of Jesus with people they met there. It was a powerful experience for everyone involved. We also visited several skateparks, where we met locals who welcomed us with openness and warmth, even though the vibe often included, homelessness, poverty, drugs and alcohol. The highlight of our last few days was attending a conference where Jonny, JSAW’s Executive Director, spoke about how Jesus made disciples, training local action sports ministry leaders.
On this trip, each member of JSAW’s team had the chance to experience God working both in them and through them. Each of the guys on this trip have been involved and impacted by JSAW’s disciple making programs for years. Will you continue to support their journey and many others by sponsoring a rider today?
