August 28th, 2009 God met me where I was and I said yes to Him for the first time. In Mark 7:20-23 Jesus said, “What comes out of a person is what defiles him. For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person” (ESV). Before Christ I was just a wicked hearted, selfish, destructive kid. All I cared about was skateboarding, girls, and partying with no love for anybody.
2 Corinthians3:18 says, “And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit” (ESV). Almost 5 years ago now God moved into my heart (Ezekiel 36:26) and His Spirit has been transforming me back into His image. On that day I told God my skateboard was now His and I wanted to use it to serve Him. I’ve been serving with JSAW for about 3 years now, on staff 10 hours a week since February as a janitor, and just this passed Monday, August 4th, I was told to come to my first mandatory staff meeting where there I was given an over 100% hour increase and an office because my roles and responsibilities in the ministry have also increased. I believe God has faithfully been working on making me the skateboarder/worker/man that he intended me to be when he designed me. God and I both know where my heart is for the skateboard culture and that’s something he’s revealed to me and given me a place to be a light in for His glory.
Psalm 37:4-6 says, “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday” (ESV). So walk faithfully with The Lord and don’t give up on your interests and talents (Matthew 25:14-30). He’s wired you how you are for a reason and has a perfect plan for your life that he’s working out in His perfect timing. And don’t let those who walk in darkness slow you down or discourage you (Psalm37:1-2, 7).
