When I was 15 years old I went to the computer lab at school and printed 25 copies of the 10 commandments, got a roll of duct tape and proceeded to duct tape the 10 commandments all around the school. The dean was not to happy with me but my passion for God's word was clear. Psalm 119:97 says, "Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long. Your commands are always with me and make me wiser then my enemies."
When I think about all that gets talked about among riders in the shop, out in the skatepark, on the rope tow; it is rarely about God's word. It rarely ever shows a love for God's word. We talk about the weather, the latest new skateboard clip that came out, or the newest board tech, but not about God's word. Yet David talks about how God's word gives him wisdom that puts him above and beyond his enemies. God's word is the edge, the differentiator in his life.
A young man named Joshua was promised success if he did one thing. "Keep this book of the law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it" (Joshua 1:8). If he wanted to succeed in what God called him to do, he had to study God's word and obey it.
David said, "If your law had not meen my delight, I would have perished in my affliction. I will never forget your precepts, for by them your have preserved my life" (Psalm 119:92-93). Literally, God's word saved his life! God's word is so important, so precious, such a huge part of life and yet we often don't spend much time studying it. At JSAW studying God's word is a major priority. We do Bible study every night of the week and our staff and volunteers are reading God's word daily.
Do you love God's word? Are you meditating on it all day long?
