Mind control. Ever thought about it? Maybe even thought it was real? What if it is? Not telekinesis or telepathy, but the power of thought and our ability to control it. From the moment we’re born until the moment we die, we’re taught how to think and what to think about. Outside sources are always pouring their opinions on us, often without our permission. They come in many forms. Sometimes through conversations with people, or maybe it’s something we see. Regardless, when we eat these opinions with our eyes and ears they become thoughts for our brain to digest. Though we can’t always control what we take in, we can choose what we do with it.
For example; a midst a night of bowling the crew in the lane next to you becomes very vulgar, obnoxious, and crude. You didn’t choose to bowl next to them, it just happened. Now you have a choice. You could leave, but you still want to bowl. You could ask them to be more polite, but then again maybe that’s not your place. You can’t change lanes because the alley is full. What do you do? Choose to think about how the group next to you is ruining your night and wallow in your pity? No, you choose to see it as an opportunity to share Christ and enjoy a night of bowling. This is exactly what Paul calls us to do in Philippians 4:8, “Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.” Be cognizant in the coming days of your thoughts, put out all negativity and think on such things!
