Safety At Wake Camp
Your Child’s Safety Comes First
At JSAW Wake Camp, we know how much trust it takes to let your child spend a day on the water. That’s why safety is built into everything we do, from our staff and equipment to the way we care for each rider.
Caring, Qualified Staff
Your child will never be just another face in the boat. With a 5:2 rider-to-staff ratio, every rider gets plenty of attention and guidance. Our coaches and drivers are trained not only to teach wakeboarding, but also to keep kids safe. Both are certified in:
-
Red Cross First Aid & CPR
-
NFHS Concussion in Sports
-
SafeSport Sexual Abuse Prevention
-
MN Boater Safety
Our drivers also complete over 10 hours of supervised training and must pass JSAW’s in-house boating test, which goes above and beyond state requirements to cover towing riders, rope management, and emergency response.
Safe, Reliable Equipment
We replace our boat every year to ensure it’s dependable and equipped with the latest safety features like a rear camera, oversized mirror, and a built-in fire suppression system. Each boat also carries all state-required safety items, including life vests for every person, a throwable flotation device, and a fire extinguisher.
To keep riders even safer, we provide helmets with built-in communication systems, so coaches can talk with them while they’re riding, offering encouragement while reducing risks like concussions.
Clear Safety Rules for Riders
We make sure every rider knows the rules before getting in the boat. Following Minnesota law:
-
Life vests are always required while riding, and for children 12 and under, anytime they’re on the boat.
-
Riders must stay seated inside the boat whenever it’s moving.
